Three Israeli Universities Climb in Global Rankings
The Shanghai Ranking of World Universities was published, which is considered quite prestigious.
It showed that three of the universities in Israel were in the list of top 100 academic institutions for 2022 and all of them had improved their positions, as opposed to last year.
The rankings
There are three ranking systems in the world that are best-known for this purpose, which include the Shanghai Ranking of World Universities, Times Higher Education and Quacquarelli Symonds.
Jerusalem’s The Hebrew University found itself at the 77th spot, which is its best ranking since 2015 when it had been on the 67th position.
Since 2021, the university has managed to climb up 13 places. In communication and mathematics, the institution took the 17th position globally and in law it took the 30th spot.
The 83rd spot was taken by the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, which saw it rise by 11 places since 2011.
This is its best score since 2018, when it had taken the 77th spot. The 83rd spot belonged to the Weizmann Institute of Science, which was an improvement of nine places since last year.
This is the best score for the institution since the introduction of the rankings back in 2003.
Other ranges
Individual rankings are not given in the system after the 100 range. Tel Aviv University was somewhere between 151 and 200 positions.
Then came Bar-Ilan University, which was between the 301 and 400 range, while the Ben Gurion University was somewhere between 401 and 500 range.
As for the University of Haifa, it was globally ranked between the 501 and 600 bracket. Hebrew University’s president, Prof. Asher Cohen said that the rankings showed academic excellence.
He was also full of praises for the researchers for the work they had done in diverse and multiple fields.
Other universities
Published annually, the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities lists the top 1,000 universities in the world.
Four of the top universities in the United States made it to the top 5 list. The first and second spot were taken by Harvard and Stanford, respectively. Next came the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The fourth spot was taken by the United Kingdom’s University of Cambridge, while the University of California, Berkeley took the fifth spot.
The same universities had also taken the top five positions last year as well.
The Technion in Israel had been considered a leading science institution all over the world consistently in the last decade.
It took the 22nd position for aerospace engineering, which was a slide of six positions since 2021. It fell three places to the 49th position for automation and control.
As for transportation science and technology and chemistry, the institute was between the 51 and 75 bracket.
Prof. Uri Sivan, the President of the University, said that the ranking was an important and significant achievement.
He stated that the international recognition of the Technion for its research and academic excellence was something to be proud of and he felt the same way about the staff.
