Hapoel Tel Aviv aims for EuroCup Success
The Drive-in Arena had an absolutely electric atmosphere. The facility in northern Tel Aviv was packed to the rafters with Hapoel Tel Aviv fans.
They were singing at the top of their lungs, as they cheered their heroes who were gracing the floor and managed to win their first ever EuroCup by defeating the London Lions.
Good debut
Danny Franco, the Reds Coach, enjoyed an excellent debut in the competition with his team starting things with a bang.
Early on in the game, they managed to find the bottom of the basket and continued to run up the score, as J’Covan Brown continued to score left and right for striking a blow to the newcomer.
Hapoel is now going to try to duplicate their success of their home game on Wednesday night when they come across another new team in Paris Basketball.
If the Reds are able to maintain this momentum in France, they will not have a problem in scoring another victory.
But, it is apparent as to who the team considers their vocal leader. Brown seemed to be on his game from the beginning, as he managed to score 19 points as well as 6 assists.
The rest of the team did the same, so by the end of the first quarter Tel Aviv was leading 24-13 that broke the game open.
Coach and players
Franco said that Brown was integral for the team’s success because he plays the role of leader. He added that J’Covan had brought his experience into the game from the beginning and chose to be aggressive.
Chris Horton was another player who made his debut in the EuroCup play and the coming season will see him receive a number of passes from Brown because he knows just how important the star guard is.
He said that playing with Brown is fun because he is an excellent communicator and leader, which makes his job a lot easier.
Bar Timor is another player who is used to playing with Brown because he was at Hapoel Jerusalem and now Tel Aviv.
Therefore, he is well-aware of the value that Brown can bring to the team and said that they had been playing together for four years.
The game
The game had been expected to be a tight one between the two teams, but it ended up being a one-sided affair for the most part because the Lions were not able to do much.
The win was undoubtedly a thrilling one for Hapoel fans, but basketball fans were not so happy because they wanted a bit more.
Under the direction of Schmidt, London did try to make a comeback, but they were missing what the former NBA man Dekker brings when he is playing.
Dekker had used ice for wrapping his ankle, but took it off and tried to convince the staff to let him play. But, they did not want to risk further injury because there is a long marathon coming.
Plus, there is also going to be a rematch in January in England.
